The Witch Tower Twisted Ever After Book 1 eBook Tamara Grantham Reviews

  • I was gifted a copy of this book by the author for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Tamara Grantham does it again! It’s no secret that I am a fan of her Fairy World MD series. So when she reached out about this book I couldn’t say no.

Now let’s be honest here I surprisingly love re-tellings. I say this because a year ago I didn’t think they were something I would ever enjoy. Also, to be completely honest going into this I knew nothing of Rapunzel except she has long hair. I mean I still haven’t even seen Tangled before picking up this book.

I really like how this story is focused on Gothel, who is living out a punishment due to her mother’s actions. In this story you see her grow so much. One of my favorite things is how she gains self-respect and self-worth throughout the story. I also love the fact this book points out that you shouldn’t stereotype people. Yes, Gothel is a witch but Raj refuses to judge her based on that. Long story short I adored Gothel and Raj and I really loved how this story ended. The story as a whole wrapped up all of the loose ends wonderfully and I felt satisfied with this being only one book (and that does not happen often).

If you like retellings you really should pick this one up!!
  • This is Rapunzel but from the witch Gothel's perspective and it's up to her to save Rapunzel and the kingdom. She set's off on her quest with the prince's squire and picks up some eclectic characters along the way. There's twists and turns and of course romance. Insta-love usually bothers me but in this case I think it worked with the story. Since Gothel's been locked away in a tower for years it makes sense that she would develop a crush on the first cute boy she spends time with. This was a fun story that introduced characters from other fairy-tales as a set up for future books in this series. I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

If you're a sucker for a fairy-tale retelling like me I would recommend this book.
  • The Witch in the Rapunzel fairy tale as the heroine?! What a twist!!! Gothel is a blue haired witch being punished for her mother’s crimes. And she actually cares for Rapunzel, and her plight. I love the romance subplot, the strays Gothel & Raj pick up along their journey, and the unique twist to this well-known story. Highly recommended!!
  • The Witch’s Tower by award-winning, fantasy author Tamara Grantham.

This tale was a refreshing turn of events considering most fairytale twists are about the main characters with different backgrounds or time periods. It was almost like we were taken behind the scenes of Rapunzel’s story. Our tour guide was a sparky, blue-haired witch named Gothel.
In the original story of Rapunzel, a witch guards the tower and is considered the villain. The author uses this and twists Gothel’s role. She is the witch that is bestowed the task of guarding Rapunzel but she’s not the villain—she’s a prisoner—and Rapunzel is her cellmate.

Let me explain. (There will be some spoilers, in my review; you have been warned.)

One night, Gothel realizes there isn’t enough food for them and decides to go into town. Along the way, she runs into a prince and his infuriating squire. Once she divulges her name, they know she is the witch that has information about the tower they seek. Against her better judgment, she decides to help them by showing them the path. One of two things will happen, either the prince will make it up the tower and die or he will break the spell and free both Rapunzel and herself. Here’s to hoping right?

Later an upset squire finds Gothel in the village and explains the prince made it up the tower but he believes the man is dying and they need her help. During his explanation, he divulges some information that has her baffled; no man can climb into Rapunzel’s tower unless he was a prince and the way he was talking meant he had seen Rapunzel. How can this be?

This is where certain events start to shift the story, it is no longer about the princess and her happily ever after, but about the witch and what she has to gamble to save a dying prince, a helpless princess, and the people targeted by high sorcerer’s twisted path for power. With the help of the handsome prince’s squire, Raj Talmund, who has sworn to protect Gothel until their quest is complete, she decides the pros outweigh the cons—I mean it’s only her life she’s wagering.

In order to break the spell, they need an enchanted pair of scissors. Unfortunately, the keepers of this enchanted object are two of the most powerful witches in the land and they happen to be Gothel’s aunts. The only way she figures they could be paid off is with a piece of radish that holds a portion of her mother’s power. Along the way, they run into a dwarf shapeshifter suffering from spelled-amnesia, a dark elf with a unique heavy metal passion, and a mysterious Dragon with elf-like qualities. As their journey grows more dangerous, there are two problems that confound and terrify her. One who is this man accompanying her? He fights like a demon, yet is afraid of witches, but can’t stop touching her magical blue locks. And two for every step, this motley crew takes towards their goal, Gothel’s one foot closer to becoming ensnared in the most powerful spell of all—love.

If you want to find out their ending, you’ll have to read Gothel’s story. I give this tale 4 1/2 stars, but since my qualms are few, I’m going to bump it up to 5.

Happy reading. (Already pre-ordered the Dragon Swan Princess and I can't wait!)
  • What an amazing story and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

The characters were awesome. I loved the journey Gothel had to go on and the things this character went through physically and mentally made this character that much stronger and kept me wanting to read more.

The story-line is incredible. Grantham has a knack for storytelling and making us feel as if we are a part of the story. She also is very good at reeling in her audience and I was completely fascinated by this story and all the twists and turns that I never saw coming until they were ready to be revealed. I highly recommend this read.
  • The Witches Tower by Tamara Grantham is a Fairytale retelling of Rapunzel, told from the Witch, Gothel’s point of view.

Gothel loves her mother, and knew her mother loved her, but she was so very angry with her. Her mother’s choices and actions cost her so much, five years later she is still paying.

Until she encounters a Prince and his Squire, which catapults her into a quest to rescue Rapunzel and save the Kingdoms.

Along the way she meets interesting characters, as well as life threatening dangers.

This story grabbed me from the beginning, and the characters were so full and colorful, I felt a part of the action. I enjoyed the twists and turns so much, in the end I stayed up all night to finish. An absolute full 5 stars, well deserved.
  • I absolutely loved this book! I love when fairy tales get a twist, and this one was wonderful! Definitely pick it up!
